Teaching Experiences

Well I am finally updating my blog! I have spent the last 6 weeks working with 6th grade students who have behavior and emotional disorders and I have loved every minute of it. Yes it has been challenging but I think I have learned more in the last 6 weeks than I think I have sitting in lectures for the past 3 years. After my experience with these students I have decided that I really want to teach elementary students with behavior and emotional disorders....I really enjoy it and seem to be able to make school fun for these kids! I switch to another placement in 2 weeks and am excited but also sad because I am leaving the students that I consider to be my own and love spending time with. There will be more posts to come when I have time!

The Weekend...and a little bit of this week

This weekend was a busy one (but what else is new!). Saturday was our first home football game which was fun....but sadly we lost (25-21) in the 4th quarter because of a few bad plays. Sunday was a crazy day! I volunteered for the McClean County Austim Society and helped out with their first annual run for autism. I stuck around to help with the walk portion of the program in the afternoon and had a blast.

This week I actually started working with a student in the classroom! As part of one of my classes we go into an elementary school and work with the students on their reading and writing skills. I am currently working with a second grade boy who loves to read and write, which is awesome! If anyone has any suggestions as to good books for a second grader let me know! He said he likes reading mysteries, books about animals, sports books (especially basketball), and adventure stories.

Well time for bed!

*Pictures are coming....I promise!*

Junior Year...So Far

The year so far has been good but has also brought new unexpected challenges. My schedule is pretty crazy this semester, which doesn't allow for much down time but that's ok I prefer to stay busy. My classes have been somewhat stressful (way too many projects) but they are good otherwise. I am working in the classroom with a special education student this semester as part of one class, which I am very excited to start in the coming weeks. In one of my other classes I am tutoring a second grade student in reading and writing, which will be fun and easier for me than most people considering I spent my summer hanging out with kids in a library. I am looking forward to the rest of the semester but it is going to be a long road. I will update more after the weekend, it's going to be a busy one! The first home football game is on Saturday and I am volunteering for an Autism walk on Sunday....but there is more to come!

*Pictures will be coming as soon as I find my camera cord!*
